How far does Cuffs adapt police drama conventions to fit its family audience at 8 p.m. on BBC1?

Cuffs has adapted its police drama to be open to the family area of audiences, including children because of the way that if it is more open to the general public at a time when everyone is home, it is always going to be watched, making it bring in more revenue and become more popular. The aim of this question is to seek your definition of police drama conventions and how they have been adapted for a pre-watershed audienceNow the main way in which cuffs has adapted it’s drama to fit the family audience is through hiding gore and inappropriate images along with not using any rude or inappropriate terms. For example when a man gets stabbed by a racist, they do not show him getting stabbed or see blood, this is because they allow the more mature viewer to infer this whereas the children will very likely not even realise and will fly over their head. Not only this but the contexts of this cuffs series is all about how they try to use some stereo types, but not many as they want it to be more for the broader audience, along with it being made in this day and age, meaning that it has to reflect the opinion people have now to make it more viewable than it would be if it represented completely different ideas to the people of our time. Along with this in the scene with the nudists they do not show any genitals towards the screen to make it more available towards the younger people and the public eye.

In conclusion they have manipulated points in the series, to make it be allowed for younger eyes to watch and view but it is not completely removed as they still want it to appeal to older people in the family, therefore they have done very well to keep the realistic part of policing along with making it available to the younger audiences, by not showing anything inappropriate therefor allowing it to keep its schedule and broadcasting times. One final example would be the armed robbery, where they don't actually show any of the crimes but they have allowed for the adults to be able to tell what is going on

Music Magazines

  • Analyse the media language of MOJO and the BBC magazine.
  • Make judgements and draw conclusions about how far the media language is used differently to fit different kinds of music. (15)
In these 2 magazines the main two artists are presented very differently, this is because of the way they are presenting very different kinds of music as in MOJO it is Rock whereas in BBC it is about Classical music. Firstly in the MOJO magazine the main artist, The Cure, who is a glam Rockstar, who is clearly, edited, covered in makeup and has his hair looking all crazy, this is because he is your usual punk star with a white face and lots of colours like blue and red, but the most prominent it the powerful white makeup to show defined feature like his jaw bone whereas in the BBC magazine the boy Sheku Kanneh Mason is a younger boy who is a the BBC Young Musician winner which you would not usually expect to be in a BBC as it is for the older generation, which this child is not he is a much younger star, this shows that just because a magazine is made to fit different kinds of audiences they can use  a different type of star, he is a bright young rising star, he played at the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, he comes from a family of soloists, he is clearly much younger because of the way he is smiling, his energy, his stance in a young mature one and the clothes he is wearing are smart and basic meaning that you would not usually expect a young man on an elderly persons magazine, this shows that they wanted to put him there because of his maturity and level of greatness.

Secondly the two front covers use different types of colour schemes and the way the writing is presented, for example in the MOJO magazine the words THE CURE and slowly crumbing and are flaky along with the words ROBERT SMITH showing that they are falling apart, not only this the album name is "Why Can't I be you" showing how utterly broken they are, whereas in the BBC magazine it is much neater and not as in your face compared to the MOJO one, secondly the writing is much neater and is a more formal font than the one in MOJO, not only this the MOJO magazine for the most part has a very obvious colour scheme, which is grey and blue with a tint of red. Showing that the bits that are in red like his eyes they really want to pop out and expose themselves to the reader showing that it is a music magazine, whereas in the BBC magazine it is a very simple front cover with your casual writing and your nothing that really is in your face.

In conclusion the two music magazines use very different types of media to convey their point of what time of magazine they are along with what way they are presenting the people in them, one a well known rock star the other an upcoming future artist. For example the added lighting in the MOJO one whereas there is none added in the BBC one. Not only this buy they layoutsare very different, in the MOJO one its all over the place whereas the BBC one it is all neaat and prestigious.

Chapter 1 Question

Chapter 1: What  social groups are represented in the opening scenes? What does the Superintendent's speech state is the mission of modern policing? In the title sequence, what kind of a place is modern Brighton represented as being?

At the title sequence we are shown Brighton as a happy fun and diverse place, having pride flags and a peer with lots of rides on it allowing people to have fun, not only this it has a diversity of people living there. Not only this the opening scene with the policemen trying separate a group of nudists fighting some men on a stag do. When mentioning modern policing what he is saying is all completely different to what is happening outside that room.  cross cuts between the constable speaking calmly while a police officer is distressed trying to break up a fight and ends up getting hurt and blamed for the situation.

John Lennon and how are musicians represented on Mojo covers.

Write about how musicians are represented on this MOJO cover.

John Lennon is that the main focus so the magazine will attract his fans and folks United Nations agency fancy reading regarding him. he's terribly illustrious and can be terribly productive during this magazine.

Musicians square measure diagrammatic as terribly serious as in most of the magic magazines that I actually have seen there square measure perpetually the musician within the middle of the front page however ne'er smiling. They even have a lightweight facing directly in their face. John Lennon is directly positioned within the centre of the magazine. This magazine is littered with info regarding the within of the magazine however even having all of that info my eyes square measure still drawn to the image and also the album cowl. it's clear that the magazine needed him to be the most focus of the magazine as a result of the magic headline  by him therefore he takes up the full front cover this shows respect for him as they haven't lined up 1/2 his face. they're no splashes of colour behind him it's simply an easy and basic background. Most of this magazine has identical colours and there's a little bit of negative area however not the maximum amount as different magazines. this can be one in all my favourite magazines as a result of it's therefore obvious then clean within the manner the duvet is given..

01 Television

We look at current news articles about the BBC and return to the OCR fact sheet on the television industry.

According to The Times newspaper this week,  watching TV live and in real time accounts for most TV viewing.

  1. What do you understand by the terms 'live' content and 'on demand' content?
  2. What is the demand for 'live' content like?
  3. According to ratings research, there are 8 programmes cited as the top live shows for family viewing. How many have you watched?
  4. Apply Blumler and Katz's audience framework to what you learn from this article.
1. Live means you have to be watching it as its being filmed, only see it during the moment, however on demand means that you can watch something on your demand, meaning whenever you feel like turning it on you can
2. 73% of the nation say they view things live.
3. 4 out of the 8. I have watched Saturday night takeaway, BGT, SCD, Paddington 2
4. I learned about Social interaction through dancing and watching the TV live and on demand as when you watch it live it brings something to look forward to as the whole family will all watch it together at the same time as its only out at one time. Another reason that watching TV is so important as it says that 39% of people feel closer to society when they watch live shows. Therefore creating a moment for them to all interact with one another and enjoy their time.

The Newspaper

Newspaper industries –ownership and control question: who controls The Observer / Guardian and what are its values?

They are controlled and owned by Scott trust limited and they have liberal values

Press freedom and regulation question: What is meant by 'a free press'? When The Guardian newspaper investigated (and revealed) what The News of The World newspaper had done to get stories, what big changes in press regulation resulted?

Press opportunity shows that the press are the most opinionated of all the 'old' media. Papers can battle on policy centered issues and writers are required to be very condemning of people with significant influence. After a long mission by The Guardian, as having hacked the voice messages of a youthful homicide casualty so that her folks thought she was as yet alive. This 'hacking outrage' prompted the Leveson Inquiry into the way of life, practices and morals of the press.

Convergence question: "When newspapers operate online there is technological and cultural convergence." What does this mean in The Observer?

Online papers will utilize the customary media channel of papers. They use features like; duplication, photography, and other things, along with that, some of the TV through implanted video and that of web-based media through persuers remarks on web journals, or each other's remarks.

Newspaper audiences question: The Observer has different sections designed to appeal to different types of readers. Explain this with examples.

The New Review comprises of more comedic assessment pieces, meetings and audits of theater, dance, music, film, engineering, PC games, and TV postings. This advances to the way of life of the buyer. The Sports segment covers basically male games with an inclination to football and rugby association. The magazine contains a lot of way of life material, for example, style, cultivating, inside stylistic layout, prosperity and exhortation on sex and connections, just as more genuine assessment pieces and meetings.

Uses and gratification question: how does The Observer meet readers' needs for personal identity and social integration?

Reading articles by accessible columnisits and responding with tweets, Instagram comments, or explanation on the website may replace real social interactions for come readers. The observer similarly reinforces a set of social nad political attitudes and therefore identifies in its representaions.

Active/passive audiences question: in what way can The Observer's audience be 'active' ?

The observer website has no user generated content, the audience are limited to responding to the journalists production.

 2. The spectator account is checked indicating that loads of individuals go onto their page for refreshes on the paper and that it is exceptionally mainstream.

3. Twitter is a decent stage to send things around on the grounds that it is anything but difficult to share and the onlooker in some cases posts the first page of the new paper and the individuals intrigued can send the post around

4. Also on twitter you can remark, talk and collaborate with others people groups thoughts and musings about a similar theme.

Media Prep - The Blumler and Katz's model

The Blumler and Katz’s theory of media states people use media for Gratifications, a type of media is Video games. A way that the people can gratify their needs by playing this video game is through escapism, and entertainment. An example of this is in the Lego Movie video game where people can escape from real life and entertain themselves with their most ideal life, and do things they wouldn’t be able to do in the normal world, things like build houses out of Lego in seconds, the reason for this is because you can help you with your mental well being by doing this as it’s a way to escape from pain and unhappiness that is in real life, therefore increasing the popularity of the place as more people will want to play to immerse themselves.

Another gratification from media is that it can form relationships, this helps people as it gives individuals something to do in their spare time with others and gives them all sorts of entertainment and it helps form bonds with others. An example of this as seen in the Lego movie video game is when they win the fight against President business they all dance to president business, this may cause people to do this in real life as they are impress. This provides us as humans with lots of entertainment and makes us not be bored in our spare time and creates something for us to do and bond with others.

Targeting Audiences through the lego movie

Prep Wednesday 6th

1. This shows their craving to work with Lego movie was extraordinary in light of the fact that they paid colossal measures of cash to get their brand promoted with a cool branding. Also the lines gives an terrible advert interest with more youthful individuals and it is much more amusing to look for the whole family including parents.

2. I do trust it was a smart  choice as it elevates their item to individuals it also is a great method of publicizing as everybody understands what Lego is and everybody loves it.

3. It is very needed to keep up the brands way of life as it gives them much more cash in the event that they show what their image is called so that young or old individuals can go to the shops and purchase their item. It's also helps remined the crowd as they presently understand what the brand itself is called therefore their kids might want something like this to show that they have seen the film and understood it.
