We look at current news articles about the BBC and return to the OCR fact sheet on the television industry.

According to The Times newspaper this week,  watching TV live and in real time accounts for most TV viewing.

  1. What do you understand by the terms 'live' content and 'on demand' content?
  2. What is the demand for 'live' content like?
  3. According to ratings research, there are 8 programmes cited as the top live shows for family viewing. How many have you watched?
  4. Apply Blumler and Katz's audience framework to what you learn from this article.
1. Live means you have to be watching it as its being filmed, only see it during the moment, however on demand means that you can watch something on your demand, meaning whenever you feel like turning it on you can
2. 73% of the nation say they view things live.
3. 4 out of the 8. I have watched Saturday night takeaway, BGT, SCD, Paddington 2
4. I learned about Social interaction through dancing and watching the TV live and on demand as when you watch it live it brings something to look forward to as the whole family will all watch it together at the same time as its only out at one time. Another reason that watching TV is so important as it says that 39% of people feel closer to society when they watch live shows. Therefore creating a moment for them to all interact with one another and enjoy their time.
